Large Cruise Ship Docking Survey

Project Overview

At the request of a client who was working on accepting large ocean-going cruise ships, we conducted a study on water area facilities and mooring facilities and the operation and mooring of anticipated cruise ships, and proposed navigation safety measures.

Project Content

Navigation Safety Study

Navigation Safety Study

Kinetic models of anticipated cruise ships were recreated on a simulator based on their vessel data. The visual navigation simulation allowed us to assess safety of navigation from a variety of viewpoints including the vessel's controlled variables and quantity of state, subjectivity of the operator etc.

Mooring Safety Study

Mooring Safety Study

We examined the safety of mooring cruise ships by conducting ship motion simulations, calculating the amount of ship motion under various external force conditions, and evaluating the load on fenders and mooring cables.

Simulation

Visual Navigation Simulation

Visual Navigation Simulation

MOL Marine & Engineering owns a navigation simulator which can visualize navigation in an anticipated environment. Navigators can experience the psychological impact of structural obstacles.
Furthermore, manual control method to external impact and its effects on the vessel movements can be seen in real time.

Ship Motion Simulation

Ship Motion Simulation

The mooring situation is recreated based on anticipated vessel and mooring facility data, and the vessel's movement against its external forces (wind, waves, and current of water) is simulated. It is possible to evaluate the amount of agitation taking into account the elongation characteristics of mooring cables and reaction force characteristics of fenders.

Sea Area Models to Suit Your Needs

Sea Area Models to Suit Your Needs

The 3D model used for the simulator is prepared based on photographic images of the actual site. Our knowledge and experience enable us to provide simulation results tailored to your needs and the necessity at the time of conducting the experiment, for scenarios taking into account harbor facility precision, day and night, and external forces of wind, waves, and water current.
