Supporting Offshore Wind Power from the “Frontlines”
– A New Challenge through Offshore Support Vessel (CSOV) Operations in Europe –

OFFSHORE WIND POWER ENERGY BUSINESS

Supporting the “Human Element” of Offshore Wind Power

Offshore wind power—one of the key renewable energy sources—has been expanding rapidly, led by Europe. At the same time, building facilities and ensuring stable operations require more than turbines alone: it takes a robust offshore support framework for the people who work at sea.
Conditions offshore change quickly due to weather and sea states, and approaches that work on land do not always apply. Securing a safe working environment offshore—so that people can work with confidence—remains one of the essential themes for the continued growth of offshore wind power.

Offshore Support through CSOVs

A Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (CSOV) is an offshore support vessel equipped with accommodation for wind farm technicians, enabling them to stay offshore for extended periods and safely carry out construction, commissioning, and operation & maintenance (O&M).
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) has been engaged in offshore wind-related vessel businesses in Asia, providing marine support services for offshore wind projects, including construction and operation and maintenance (O&M).
Building on these initiatives, MOL entered the offshore wind support vessel business in Europe in 2026.

CSOVs are equipped with:

  • Accommodation spaces for technicians working offshore
  • Systems that enable safe transfer between vessels and offshore wind turbine platforms
  • Functions that support long-term offshore operations

These features allow CSOVs to serve as an offshore base that supports operations at sea.

Strengths of MOL

MOL has operated a wide range of vessels over many years and has extensive experience conducting business across the world’s oceans.
Leveraging this experience, in this business, MOL provides:

  • Safe and reliable vessel operations in offshore environments
  • Stable operations that support long-term offshore activities
  • The capability to respond to projects in global markets, including Europe

Through these strengths, MOL supports offshore wind power projects.

MOL’s Offshore Wind Power-Related Business

MOL regards offshore wind power not only as power generation itself, but also as a business that includes the maritime infrastructure supporting it.
Within this framework, this CSOV business:

  • Supports personnel working offshore
  • Contributes to the stable operation of offshore wind facilities

This project serves as one of the important components of MOL’s offshore wind power-related business.
