CASE STUDY
MOL carried out the marine transportation of the rigid wing sail of the “WIND CHALLENGER”—a hard sail wind propulsion system— to be installed on a newly-built LNG carrier. The sail was transported by sea from Nagasaki, Japan to South Korea.
In this project, the sail required handling with extremely high precision due to its very large size. We developed a stowage plan that placed top priority on safety and executed the marine transportation accordingly.
The MOL Group provides a wide range of logistics services—including marine transportation—on a one-stop basis. In this case as well, we leveraged our integrated capabilities to manage the entire process seamlessly, from planning through transportation.
Going forward, we will continue to flexibly and reliably address diverse transportation projects—including heavy cargo, large cargo, and special cargo—by offering high value-added logistics services that meet the varied needs of our customers.
Please enjoy the dynamic video showcasing how the large sail is loaded onto the vessel.
With the comprehensive capabilities of the MOL Group, we deliver optimal solutions for all heavy, large, and special cargo transportation needs.

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has developed the Wind Challenger, which converts wind energy directly to a vessel propulsion force through an extensive use of the latest technologies. Wind energy is clean and unlimited. We aim to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions by converting wind energy to propulsion force for ships. In October 2022, the 1st vessel, “SHOFU MARU” was delivered and started operation.
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) provides optimal solutions for marine transportation needs, supporting transport of heavy and oversized cargo with multi-purpose vessels, while encompassing a broad range of associated services, including customs clearance, land transportation and equipment installation.
