Closed Loop
Closed loop is a regasification system that uses steam as a heat source to regasify LNG. Steam is used to heat an intermediate fluid (typically fresh water or glycol water) which warms up LNG. Steam is continuously produced in an onboard boiler to warm up the intermediate fluid again. It is more costly compared with the Open Loop type because of the fuel cost for the boiler. However, it is suitable for projects in a region where sea water is too cold to serve as a heat source.
