Specified Skillsed
The "specified skilled" worker is a residence status given to a foreign national who possesses a certain level of skills and knowledge in an industry that is experiencing extreme labor shortages. This new residency status was established in April 2019 to solve the labor shortage issues in those industries. Under this program, it is possible for a foreign national to enter Japan under the "technical internship program" and then to apply to be transitioned to be a "specified skilled worker" for a long-term stay.
