GLOSSARY

HD Compressor

Abbreviation for High Duty Compressor. An HD compressor is a large capacity compressor that returns Boil-Off Gas (BOG) generated in the cargo tank of the LNG carrier to the onshore during LNG loading operation. The HD compressor is not necessary when a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) receives LNG by Ship-to-Ship (STS) operation from LNG carrier, because the FSRU cargo tank pressure is usually higher than that of an LNG carrier and BOG will return back to LNG carrier naturally. However, since an FSRU can be used as an LNG carrier, most FSRUs are equipped with an HD compressor.
